The rumours have been swirling for months, and at a TCA panel, Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly confirmed plans for the remainder of this season of Glee to be set entirely in New York, and he also re-confirmed that next season will be the last.
The upside: The NYC stuff is the only watchable stuff on the show for the last season and a half. Lea Michele, Naya Rivera, and Chris Colfer are fantastic together and have grown tremendously as actors over the course of the show. The downside: Instead of being able to watch Glee episodes in about 10-15 minutes this season because I would fastforward through all the McKinley stuff, it means I have to take the time and watch the whole episode again.
The show set up in its last episode that Blaine (Darren Criss) and Sam (Chord Overstreet) could make the move to the Big City, and they’ve been saying that Artie (Kevin McHale) is going to Film School in Brooklyn since last season, but will anyone else be moving to NYC? Kevin Reilly is staying mum on exactly what will happen.
“Some are going to be graduating and moving; creatively, it would be ridiculous that everybody moves to New York,” he said. “There will be some that will graduate and move on and they’ll arc back in when we do special episodes. They’ll always be a part of it… But for this season, there will be a graduation, several of the cast members will move on and a few others will go to New York.”
Jane Lynch has already said she’s fine with the show moving to NYC and has some ideas how she could pop up. Is there anyone else you will miss from the new cast? Jacob Artist is the only one who made a really impression on me to stick around.
What do you think of the full-time move to the Big Apple?
