‘Reality Bites’: Ben Stiller is bringing it back!

Reality Bites fans, it’s time to get excited.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the 1994 cult comedy might be resurrected on the small screen.  Original star Ben Stiller is executive producing the show for NBC, and Helen Childress, who wrote the original screenplay, has signed on to write the script for the reboot.  Maybe Lisa Loeb can write another song for the soundtrack? (Don’t forget that the film gave us Lisa’s classic “Stay”).

The plot for the series won’t stray far from the film. It’ll revolve around Lelaina Pierce (played by Winona Ryder in the film) as she struggles to find her way in the pre-Internet early 1990s. It’ll follow her friends that she shares an apartment with.  The original film also starred Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn.  They are all slightly too old to revive their characters, haha.

The film wasn’t a big hit during its theatrical run, but it’s taken on cult status over the years and helped launch the careers of Stiller and Hawke, who are still doing just fine. Winona Ryder…not so much.

Here’s the trailer for the original 1994 film:
